For the first time in 12 years the Lady Lancers were the Del Rio League Champions, finishing off their season with a record of 7-1, and overall were 20-8. They had an amazing turn around compared to last year’s record of 3-7, with each player growing individually while also cheering each other on. The Lancers advance to the first round of CIF this Thursday, February 7, at La Serna, playing against Rancho Mirage at 7 P.M. The team will have to beat the Rattlers in order to continue to Round Two. In their division the Lancers placed 16th and were 194th in the state.

Ariana Perez, a junior, credited Coach Hemenway, Senior Captain Nenetl Camacho, and Senior Captain Izabella Apodaca, for the team’s success and improvement. She said that how the athletes came together, the obstacles they had to overcome, the grind from the beginning of summer to now were the factors for the team’s success. “It was all surreal,” she said.

Shooting Guard Julianna Acosta said, “I don’t think that we could have gone as far as we did without the leadership and support of the seniors. The way we have bonded this year has made a real difference, and [that] can be seen on and off the court.”
