In just a matter of days, the seniors of La Serna High School will be moving on into the next chapters of their lives, once again being a small fish in a big pond, a feeling they remember so long ago. Whether it’s pursing a career, attending college, or exploring various options, the amount of love and time spent at this school will forever be remembered in their hearts. La Serna High School congratulates the Class of 2019. Here is a list of some seniors choosing the path they wish to pursue.

Students reported various reasons for their choices. Anaisabel Chavez, who will attend Yale, said, “Ever since I was a kid, I’ve wanted to get a degree from an Ivy League school and study law after.”

Savanna Piette chose Whittier College because “they offer a program that will allow me to become a teacher quickly and it is close to home.” Allison Martinez also chose Whittier College and said, “I want to follow in my grandfather’s footsteps.”

Tony Alcantar joined the United States Marine Corps and said, “I feel this is the best course of action because I want to be a police officer and I also would like to join the military.”

Luke Garcia is attending the University of La Verne to further his education and continue to play baseball. Another athlete, Haylee Clay, will play softball for the University of Hawi’i at Manoa.

Many students chose community colleges after considering the cost of higher education. Rebecca Hockenberry chose Cerritos Community College “because Cerritos has [a] zoology [program]and it is cheaper than going to a four-year right out of high school.”
